4 Tips For Organising your Home

4 Tips For Organising your Home

Everyone has those moments when you look at the amount of clutter and mess and think ‘Where do I begin?’.

Give yourself 10 minutes to sit with a favourite drink and snack and notepad. Try to ensure you are not disturbed so that you can relax and think clearly. In your notepad write down:

(1) What you want to change as soon as possible - clothes on the floor, toys in multiple rooms, overloaded kitchen bench or cupboard

(2) Make a page for each room you want to change, add a number for each page in the order you want to tackle each room

(3) For each room make notes on what you would like to change -  rearrange wardrobe, make a toy/office space, organize jewelry/make up, general declutter etc.

(4) Make a note of what you need right now to make a difference, you may need to buy these items or you may already have them. Storage cubes are a great resource as you can use them for short term usage but later use them in wardrobes and other areas.

Now you have an idea of what you can do, and you can make time for each task which could be as little as 15 minutes a day or a few hours on the weekend.

Each week we will go through what you can do to declutter, reorganise and create your individual style.

To start look at those tasks you wanted to change as soon as possible – can you do something small like getting containers and storage cubes? Do you need to commit to a particular housework task each day to get this achieved? This is just a starting point, so don’t overcommit yourself. If you need to buy storage items make sure the colour scheme will suit your overall vision of your home, and if in doubt choose the same colour as your walls or carpet.

Be kind to yourself. You are about to embark on a rewarding journey and this is your journey so make it as positive and fun as you want.
